Cpl. Amadeo Vecchio On Remembrance Day the RCMP plans to pause and take time to thank those who have served bravely, giving the ultimate sacrifice of their lives in times of war, conflict and peace. There are currently 13 RCMP officers in the Kelowna detachment who have served in the Canadian military, each with their own stories and experiences that helped prepare them for a career as a police officer. Cpl. Amadeo Vecchio is a general duty RCMP officer with a highly decorated military background and has been promoted multiple times in the Canadian Armed Forces, holding the senior rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Throughout his military career, Vecchio has seen duty in many different places which included peacekeeping missions with the United Nations in Cyprus. He was also a member of the “Last Battle Team” in Afghanistan in the years 2011 and 2012. “It is important to remember the sacrifices made in various conflicts in which Canadians have been involved,” Vecchio said. “Reflection on Memorial Day also reminds us of what we don’t want to see coming down the road for us and the next generation. We remember the sacrifices made and keep our freedom and security as our vital ground.” RCMP will attend 12 Remembrance Day school assemblies Thursday around Kelowna before marching from Stuart Park to the City Park cenotaph for the annual ceremony.
