Jay Leno is recovering from burns after a gasoline fire, the former host of “The Tonight Show” told Variety.
“I got some serious burns from a petrol fire. I’m okay. I just need a week or two to get back on my feet,” Leno said in a statement to the publication.
CNN has reached out to Leno’s representatives for comment.
Leno, an avid car collector, was working on one of his vehicles in his garage when it reportedly went up in flames. He is being treated for injuries at the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles.
Amy Bennett, a hospital spokesman, told CNN that Leno was in stable condition and was being treated for “burns to his face and hands from a gasoline accident in his garage over the weekend.”
“He is in good humor and is touched by all the inquiries into his condition and wishes,” the statement said. “He wants to let everyone know that he is doing well and that he is at the ‘best burn center in the United States.’
Leno, 72, canceled an appearance at The Financial Brand Forum in Las Vegas on Sunday, People reported, citing organizers.
“His family has not been able to give us many details, but there has been a very serious medical emergency that prevents Jay from traveling,” said an email to conference attendees obtained by the publication. “All we know is he’s alive, so our prayers go out to him and his family tonight.”
The convention had booked Leno as a special opening night performer for attendees who purchased a gold pass to the event.
