Jacksonville residents had plenty of events to attend throughout the weekend to celebrate the holidays. One of the most popular events in the area is the Melanin Market, an event that brings together more than 200 black businesses to celebrate entrepreneurship and community. In recent months, large companies such as Walmart have received reactions from the public about the way they choose to honor the memory of the Juneteenth with their merchandise. However, people who attended the Melanin Market celebration said there were other effective ways in which companies could express their opinions and show support. One participant said that “some of the data had reactions to what some say undermines the meaning of the Juneteenth” Walmart apologized last month for making Great Value Juneteenth ice cream and an Indianapolis Children’s Museum removed a Juneteenth watermelon salad from its menu – later accusing it of neglect that was not considered by museum staff. one D Walmart Celebration Edition: Juneteenth Ice Cream (Copyright 2022 by WPLG Local10.com – All Rights Reserved.) “It’s not about data and money, it’s about your support. So, as long as you are genuine, I do not want the hoof and the merchandise. I need genuine support. “I do not need ice cream,” said Rachel Csar. Vendors at the Melanin Market said that knowing the history and supporting black businesses is part of what the Juneteenth is all about. For sellers like Jennifer Goodwin, owner of Open Heart Arts and Crafts LLC, the right way to celebrate Juneteenth is to “remember the purpose.” “If you have celebrations like this to remember the purpose of the Juneteenth, this is the right way to do it. “I do not make ice cream,” said Goodwin. Vendors and event attendees hope that people will continue to talk about meaningful ways to celebrate the holiday. Copyright 2022 by WJXT News4JAX – All rights reserved.
