Donald Trump announced a new bid for the White House in 2024 on Tuesday night, unfazed by some disastrous midterm election results in which many of his top contenders lost their races. While the Republican Party loudly predicted a “red wave” on Election Day, flooding the House and Senate with conservatives to effectively disable Joe Biden’s legislative agenda, what actually happened was less of a wave, more of a light splash. Instead, Democrats retained control of the upper chamber of Congress, while the GOP looks likely to win only a slim majority in the House, sparking an outburst of harsh finger-pointing, excuses and scapegoating among right-wing lawmakers. Marjorie Taylor Greene spoke of a “civil war” brewing between traditional Republicans and the Maga movement, with much of the blame being laid at Mr Trump’s Palm Beach doorstep. The strategists were quick to turn on the 45th president after his stranglehold on their party failed to deliver the promised results, with several of the innovation candidates refusing the election he had backed, including Dr Mehmet Oz, Cary Lake and Herschel Walker, they could not invade victory. One man who still believes in Donald Trump is Trump himself, who, despite multiple investigations into his business empire, private life and pile of government documents, is determined to secure a belated second term in the Oval Office. It’s clear he learned nothing from a first term that saw him fail to build his trademark US-Mexico border wall, draw ridicule on the world stage and be impeached twice, first for trying to blackmail the Ukrainian government and then for instigating a deadly attack. at the heart of American democracy based on a lie. Assuming Trump himself is indeed all in, what do the rest of his family think about a potential return to Washington? Melania Trump The former first lady never seemed to particularly enjoy her time in the White House, protesting in leaked audio that she loathed putting up her (much-mocked) Christmas decorations, slapping her husband’s hand on the steps of Air Force One and wearing a jacket bearing the slogan ‘I really don’t care, do I?’ on a visit to an immigration detention center in Texas, ostensibly a dig at the media. You might think she would be much happier pursuing a life of leisure at Mar-a-Lago and NFTs than returning to the political fray, but when asked about Mr. Trump’s potential second choice by Fox’s Pete Hegseth News in an interview in May. he replied enigmatically, “Never say never.” “If he runs, he’ll be right there,” a family insider confidently told Politico in September of last year. “She is not going to have her own gatherings. But did he ever?’ Certainly, Melania played a central role at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago campaign event on Nov. 15, meeting and greeting guests beforehand and drawing cheers and applause during his speech. Donald Trump admitted during his 2024 announcement that Mrs Trump’s time in the White House “has not been a pleasant ride”. Donald Trump Jr One of the former president’s most outspoken and die-hard cheerleaders is his eldest son and namesake, a beloved presence in the right-wing media and Maga crowds, last heard from tweeting the word “Bloodbath!” early on election night last week, only to be proven wrong for good. Don Jr. is clear that his father wants to run again, but he has often hedged his bets on whether it will actually happen. “That has to be his own thing,” he said when asked by Fox about it in July. “He’ll see what he wants to do, how he feels. I think he’s being pretty honest with himself about that. You know, if he wakes up one morning and feels like Joe Biden on a daily basis, he’s probably going to say, “it’s not my time anymore.” “That said, I think he has more energy than any human I know, so I’m probably not too worried about that happening.” Don Jr. was absent from his father’s campaign launch, telling reporters he was away hunting in the western U.S. and couldn’t fly back to Florida in time because of inclement weather. However, he showed his support by tweeting vigorously throughout the speech, sharing videos and key lines. Eric Trump Trump’s second son, often harshly labeled as the youngest of the couple, notably by Saturday Night Live, has been less prominent of late, but he angrily answered the 2024 question when he appeared on Fox to defend his father after his raid FBI at Mar-a-Lago in August. Trump insisted that his father had done nothing wrong and was only being prosecuted as part of an effort to stop him from running again. “All they want to do is want to get Donald Trump,” he fumed. Donald Trump Jr., Kimberly Guilfoyle, Eric Trump and Lara Trump (Reuters) “They fundraise for it, send fundraising emails for it, brag on camera about it. They hunt him, they summon him. Every day we get another subpoena, and they’re doing it for one reason: Because they don’t want Donald Trump to run and win again in 2024.” He continued: “Honestly, I hope – and I’m saying this for the first time – I hope he goes out and beats these guys again because frankly, this country cannot survive this nonsense. Can not. “We are not who we are. This is Venezuela… This is banana republic antics. Having a home of the 45th president of the United States raided by FBI agents, safes broken into, that is not who we are as a democracy. Imagine if that happened to Barack Obama. The world would be in an uproar.” Eric Trump was rewarded for his loyalty at Mar-a-Lago on Nov. 15 when his father asked him to stand during his 2024 presidential address and saluted him for his efforts. Get up, Eric!’ Mr. Trump said. “I think he got more calls than any person in the history of our country. So unfair. “Al Capone got a lot less. Billy the kid got hardly any. Jesse James, no. Eric Trump… is a doctor of subpoenas. I appreciate the work you do and the abuse you’ve done, I really do.” Lara Trump Another favorite of the conservative media, Eric Trump’s wife can always be counted on to defend the family’s interests at no risk to her own credibility, as when she complained that Trump only earned “4 bucks” during the stay of the White House. More recently, she took to Australia’s Sky News to threaten Mr DeSantis, telling him mob-style that it would be “cooler” if he didn’t seek the Republican nomination in 2024, suggesting she is still eyeing her father-in-law’s return. law. “I think he’s a smart enough guy to know that it would be great to have all the support of this party, the America first movement, the Maga movement, whatever you want to call it, fully behind him in 2028,” he said. Governor of Florida. “I can tell you that the qualifiers are very messy and very raw. We’ve been through it before. So wouldn’t it be nicer for him, and I think he knows this, to wait until 2028?” Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner The former president’s beloved daughter appears reluctant to join Trump’s 2024 campaign, skipping his inaugural event and later telling reporters that “[did] I don’t plan to get involved in politics.” “This time, I choose to prioritize my young children and the privacy we create as a family,” Mrs Trump said. “While I will always love and support my father, in the future I will do so outside the political arena.” She added a subtle but unmistakable rebuke to her father’s policies, saying, “I am grateful to have had the honor of serving the American people and will always be proud of many of the accomplishments of our administration.” (Emphasis added.) John Kelly with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner (Getty) Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner, appeared ready to follow suit. According to the New York Post, she spent time over the weekend at her half-sister Tiffany Trump’s wedding avoiding his appeals for their support. “Trump thought he might be able to convince Ivanka this weekend to come back and campaign for him, since she was the most sought-after speaker after the president himself last time… but so far she’s resisted his pleas and remained firm, as and Jared,” anonymous source of information. he told the tabloid. “They both feel burned in Washington and don’t want to go back and expose themselves and their children to another bitter campaign.” Like Melania, the duo did not sit well in DC and reportedly fell behind the scenes with allies such as John Kelly, Kellyanne Conway, Steve Bannon and Chris Christie, who accused them of benefiting from nepotism instead of being in the corridors of power. meritorious. However, Kushner attended Trump’s campaign speech at Mar-a-Lago – without his wife. Mary Trump The black sheep of the Trump family is the president’s niece Mary, a psychologist who has emerged as one of her uncle’s sharpest critics since she published her book about him, Too Much and Never Enough. Hilariously calling him a “black hole of necessity” recently, Mrs Trump is never short of an apocalyptic prediction about Mr Trump’s rise to power and warned last week that time was ticking for the Justice Department and attorney general to decide Merrick Garland. if they will accuse him. “If it’s not, then much worse things will start to happen,” he warned. As recently as last September, Mrs Trump hoped her uncle was “too busy” with lawsuits to return to politics, but, just three months later, she was already warning she would stop at nothing to return to power, a prediction that seems ready to be confirmed.
