Customize lock screen photo wallpaper

When customizing a photo on the lock screen, there are two new overlay options, DuoTone and Color Wash, to change the look of the photo.

Wallpaper photo editing

If you set a photo as your wallpaper, Apple lets you know that you can use pinch gestures to adjust the cropping of the image.

Backup via LTE

IPhone and iPad users can back up their devices via LTE mobile connection, in addition to 5G or WiFi connection. Apple has introduced support for 5G backups in iOS 15 and extended it to LTE in iOS 16.

Astronomy wallpaper location

The Astronomy wallpaper now shows a green dot to let you know where you are. The dot appears in the Earth wallpaper options, but does not always remain on the wallpaper and is only visible when editing the wallpaper. These dynamic wallpapers are now available on older iPhones as well.

Wallpaper editing

In the Settings app, the Wallpapers section has been modified to make it easier to customize the different wallpapers you set for the Home Screen and Lock Screen. There are new Customization options under Screen Lock and Home Screen to make it clear that there are customizable settings. When you choose your look, there is also the “Set as wallpaper pair” option.

Apple Cash and Apple Card

The “Send and Request” interface of Apple Cash has changed to the second beta of iOS 16. It is now a single merged button instead of two separate buttons and the balance is clearer. For the Apple Card, the “Weekly Activity” section also tells you how much Apple Cash you have earned for the week. t

Screenshots

There is now a “Save to quick note” option when saving a screenshot, which combines the options Save Photos, Save Files and Delete Screenshot.

Delete lock screens

It is now easier to delete a lock screen by swiping up.

SMS filtering

According to Apple Release Notes, developers can categorize incoming SMS messages from unknown numbers into 12 subcategories with transaction and promotion categories for improved organization. For Indian users, Messages supports the export of SMS events. Event and appointment messages are displayed as Siri suggestions and are also displayed to users in the Messages thread and Calendar Inbox.

iPadOS 16 Stage Manager

In iPad 16 beta 2 on compatible iPads, there is a new Stage Manager setting in the “Home screen and login” section of the Settings app. Displays options for hiding recent applications and hiding the database when using Stage Manager.

Report spam

For some mobile companies in the US, Messages in iOS 16 beta 2 extends the “Report Spam” feature to allow users to report spam SMS / MMS to mobile companies.

Translate

Translation now supports Turkish, Thai, Polish, Indonesian and Dutch.

HealthKit API

For developers, the HealthKit Training APIs support multi-sport training with activities that include swimming, cycling and running. IOS 16 beta 2 also adds HealthKit support for the new running training metrics Apple announced at WWDC. Training measurements include running strength, ground contact time, vertical oscillation, running speed and stride length.
