The leg legend broke down in tears as he told TalkTV’s Piers Morgan how the family had excitedly gathered to welcome the new arrivals following the birth of Georgina Rodriguez on April 18. But while the couple’s daughter Bella was born healthy, her brother Angel never made it. The 37-year-old Man Utd star recalls: “Gio got home and the kids start saying where’s the other baby, where’s the other baby?” And he revealed how he cried with his eldest, 12-year-old Cristiano Junior, as he broke the news in his bedroom. But his younger children – Eva and Mateo, five, and Alana Martina, four – took longer to process the news, he said. He told Piers: “The others at the beginning, around the table, the kids start saying ‘Mum where’s the other baby…’. …and after a week I say let’s be up front and be honest with the kids, let’s say that Angel, which is his name, is going to Heaven.” Six months on, Ronaldo also said how Angel remains a part of their daily lives. He said: “The kids understand, we’ve had voices around the table saying ‘Dad I did this for Angel’ and pointing to the sky. Which I like more because it is part of their life. I will not lie to my children, I am telling the truth, which was a difficult process.” Watch “Piers Morgan Uncensored: 90 Minutes with Ronaldo”, at 8pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays on TalkTV. As the family mourned her loss, Ronaldo said it brought him closer to his children and former Gucci store worker Georgina, whom he met at an event in Madrid in 2016. He added: “In a way, I became more of a father, friendlier to them. they’re getting closer to their dad, and me and Georgina too.” Piers asked, “I wanted to ask you why these things can make or break relationships. “Because grief can be so intense, it can tear couples apart or bring them closer together.” Ronaldo replied: “In my case it was better. I became more friendly with Yo. I was a friend of course, but I feel more love for her and my children and I’m starting to see life in a different light. “It’s been the hardest time, the last six months, since my father died.” The Portugal forward revealed he is keeping his son’s ashes close, having created a chapel in the basement, which also holds the remains of his father Jose Dinis Aveiro – who died in 2005 from liver failure. Further extracts from Piers’ world exclusive interview will be broadcast on TalkTV tomorrow night. Ronaldo and Georgina, 28, had revealed they were expecting twins, a boy and a girl, in October 2021. Speaking publicly for the first time about April’s tragedy, Ronaldo said: “Docks, probably the worst time I’ve had in my life, since my father died.. when you have a child you expect everything to be normal and you have this problem, it’s difficult, you know, as a person, me and Georgina have had a very difficult time because we don’t understand why it happened to us. “It was very, very difficult to understand what was going on … at that time in our lives.” He said how, despite his grief, his hectic football schedule continued and it was only the love of his family that got him through. He said of Georgina: “We’ve been through tough times but we said, ‘Listen, we’ve got more kids, we’ve got one born, Bella, that we should be happy too.’ “It’s crazy. I tried to explain a few times to my family, even my close friends. “I say, I never felt happy and sad at the same time. I never felt. It’s hard to explain. “So hard. It’s, you don’t know if you’re crying, you don’t know if you’re smiling because it’s something you don’t know how to react to. “You don’t know what to do to be honest. And of course I remember very well that I looked like — I don’t know the word to describe what I felt at that moment. “But it’s crazy feelings, it’s crazy emotional. But like I told you before, I have to keep that we at least had Bella. One died and one survived, but it was, it’s hard to explain.” Before Georgina became pregnant, Ronaldo was already a father to four children, with three of his children born to two surrogate mothers. He described Bella, now six months old, as a “spectacular, beautiful girl” who the whole family are very proud of, adding: “I’m so, so happy.” 5 Ronaldo, Georgina Rodriguez and kids Cristiano Jr, Eva, Mateo, Alana Martina and baby Bella Credit: instagram 5 Ronaldo was playing for Manchester United last monthCredit: Alamy
