The employee, Yuesheng Wang, 35, of Candiac, Que., was arrested following an RCMP investigation. Wang is scheduled to appear in Longueuil court on Monday to face four charges under the Security of Information Act and the Criminal Code, the RCMP said in a news release. He is charged with obtaining trade secrets, unauthorized use of a computer, fraud to obtain trade secrets and breach of trust by a public official. The RCMP investigation, conducted by the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET), began in August 2022 after Hydro-Québec’s corporate security branch filed a complaint about Wang, according to the RCMP statement. Wang has been working at Hydro-Québec as a researcher since October 2016, according to information on LinkedIn, a social networking platform. Before that, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Arkansas and a visiting researcher at Queen Mary University of London. He has a master’s degree in materials engineering from the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Hydro-Québec is Quebec’s state-owned energy provider. More to come.
