Credit: Erik Kain Updated 11/17/22. See the update below. If you’re having the same problems I’m having with Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2 today, I guess we can take solace in an old saying: Misery loves company. Modern Warfare II Season 1 and the launch of Warzone 2.0 kicked off a bunch of new content this morning, but also a slew of new issues. One of the most annoying and potentially fun of these is breaking the social menu. When I click on the top right corner to access my friends and party it starts loading and then takes me back to the main screen. I can’t access any friends, recent players, parties, etc. The same bug has been affecting my teammates all day (after some matchmaking issues messed us up after yesterday’s update as well). Fortunately, there is a simple solution here. The update has added new voice channels to Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0. These work like Discord. You can set up a voice channel just for your party, or a channel that people can permanently access in multiple matches, similar to a Discord server. By going to Voice Channels (the tab in the top right corner of the screen that looks like a headset) you can invite people to your party, kick or promote within your party, and so on. Basically, you get most of the functionality of the Social Networks menu, but it’s inside the Voice Channels menu. You have to make sure to enable voice chat for this to work, of course, but it’s a quick and simple fix to what will hopefully end up being a very short problem. A more persistent problem will be the general clumsiness of the menu designs more broadly. It will take some real time and effort to get it right. Read all about today’s presentation here. MODERNIZE Infinity Ward tweeted that the social tab issue has been fixed: This is definitely a good thing given how important it is to be able to party with friends in a game like Call Of Duty. It’s kind of crazy to me that something so fundamental to the game experience breaks and doesn’t get fixed for over a day. Better late than never, I guess. However, other problems remain. Matchmaking was an abomination even beyond breaking the social menu. Every other Warzone match we played last night went into the warm up area and slowly drained the players until we had to leave. Then we would load into a new match and it would be fine. This happened almost every time. There needs to be a much faster timer that activates and starts a match with less than a full lobby, be it 140/150 players or 100/150 players. Not sure of the exact time, but the waiting game is not what we are here for. We’re here for Warzone, and waiting and leaving matches and rejoining again and again until someone starts is deeply tiring and frustrating. We also had some of the same issues we had when Modern Warfare II came out, where any part over 3 couldn’t find a match or would crash. It seems that many players are having this problem again. On a side note, what the heck were they thinking changing Neon Camos to matte? The ridiculous bright lime camo I was rocking on my Lockwood 300 is now… boring by comparison. Neon Blue (Azul I think it’s called) is fine now, but it was bright and shiny and glossy before. By all means, give us solid matte harpoons too, but don’t mess with our neon ones! (And please, for the love of all that is holy, can we just have a vertical camo option instead of horizontal? Good grief menus remain terrible by any standard of modern UI design). Have you had better luck with matchmaking today? Let me know on Twitter or Facebook. Oh, and I got my first win in Warzone 2 on day one!
