Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning that calls for 10-20cm mostly, but up to 25cm or more in the extreme southeast corner of the province, such as in areas like Sprague. “The thing here again is going to be snow, sometimes heavy, and then some snow that will reduce visibility. So the combination of those two things could make driving conditions quite difficult,” Environment Canada meteorologist Natalie Hasell said. in an interview with Marjorie Dowhos on CBC Radio Manitoba’s Midday on Thursday. The warning extends from Killarney-Turtle Mountain across the Ontario border and east as far north as Whiteshell. Snow is expected to begin falling Thursday afternoon, with conditions worsening between late afternoon and overnight. Low visibility is also expected in heavy and heavy snowfall. Hassell says the weather system could move slightly north, and areas like the capital could see up to 10cm of snow. “You may see neighboring areas, and that would include the city of Winnipeg, be included in the warning area,” he said. Things should ease up by Friday morning as the system moves towards Ontario. The following communities and surrounding areas are under warning:
Killarney. Pilot Mound. Manitou. Morden. Winkler. Altona. Morris. Steinbach. Agios Adolphos. Ste. Agathe. Emerson. Vita. Richer. Sprague. Northwest Corner Provincial Forest. Whiteshell. Lake Bonnet. Pinyava
The warning areas may expand as the system continues to develop, Environment Canada says.
