The incident happened at a railway crossing on Carl Hall Street, near Sheppard Avenue and Keele Street in mid-May.
In the one-minute video, the SUV can be seen approaching a railway crossing just as the gate closes, indicating that a train is approaching.
The SUV stops for a while, but then pulls to the right to move around the gate.
It seems to stop just before the lines, but within three seconds the train enters the shot and hits the vehicle, pushing it out of the shot.
GO Transit says the driver was not seriously injured in the incident and managed to get off the spot.
Their vehicle, however, appeared to add up to images released by GO Transit.
The driver also faces charges for the incident.
“Most of these incidents, like the one in the video, can be avoided,” Metrolinx Security Director Martin Gallagher said in a blog post. “Collisions on level crossings are caused by pedestrians, cyclists and drivers who deliberately take risks or make bad decisions by mistake, out of habit or because they are distracted. “Everyone must be vigilant at the level crossings and remember that trains move fast and can show up at any time.”
Metrolinx said in a blog post that the driver “was lucky to be away” from the incident.
He called on all drivers to take precautions at the railway crossings in the light of the “shocking video”.
