Mirko Reisser, known as DAIM, uses a swing to paint and spray-paint an extremely tall work of art on the east side of the downtown First on Tenth building at 123 Tenth Avenue SW
Reiser, whose career began on the streets of Hamburg, Germany in the 1980s, says he began creating the work in his sketchbook before going to his computer to complete the craft.
“It took me, I think, seven days just to put the sketch on the wall,” he said. “Not only is he very tall, he is also very tall.”
Reisser, who is visiting Calgary for the first time to complete the project, says it is also his first time working in a swing scene.
“It’s very high, so it’s definitely a challenge.”
To help him, Raiser has three assistants from Calgary
“I can not do it alone. It is very big, it is very tall,” he said.
Reiser says he already completed the tallest graffiti project in the world 27 years ago, but it was only 28 meters high.
“So this is like three times higher,” he said.
It is expected that the tall work of art will be completed by the end of the month.
It might have ended sooner, but the rain and wind created a less than ideal environment for Reisser to paint.
“If it blows a lot, the spray flies everywhere,” he complained.
The huge project is part of the Beltline Urban Murals Project (BUMP), a community-led festival that focuses on artists who see public spaces being renewed through art.
The 2022 BUMP Festival of Calgary lasts from 1 to 28 August.
