The Three Lions easily sealed their place at Qatar 2022 and are among the favorites to win the tournament, having reached the semi-finals in 2018 and the final of Euro 2020. England will be looking to claim glory in Qatar this winter England have a huge range of talent in almost every position and boss Southgate will have to narrow it down. He is confident his men can win the tournament but admitted they will have to be “close to perfect” to triumph in the Persian Gulf. However, England’s preparations were hit hard this summer after they went winless in six and suffered relegation from the Nations League. England have lost to Hungary twice in recent months and Southgate has come under increasing pressure following their poor run, while also dealing with a number of injuries. A spirited comeback in a 3-3 draw with Germany at the end of September gave hope, but England will not get the chance to play another game until the World Cup kicks off on November 21.
England at World Cup 2022: When will the squad be confirmed?
All 32 participating countries have two key deadlines to meet when it comes to sharing official team lists. The preliminary group had until Friday, October 21 to be confirmed. Southgate could name up to 55 players, but the list has not been made public, although there have been many rumors about who is on it. The final 26-man squads must then be submitted to FIFA on Monday 14 November at 19:00 Qatar time (16:00 UK). However, Southgate will name his final England squad ahead of the final round of Premier League fixtures this weekend – with the announcement expected on Thursday November 10 at 2pm. Southgate hinted at his World Cup plans when he announced his squad for England’s Nations League games against Italy and Germany at the end of September.

England at World Cup 2022: Who is likely to be in the squad?
Some players are guaranteed their place – subject to avoiding any late injuries.
Tottenham striker Harry Kane is the captain and top scorer and is a sure choice alongside Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, Borussia Dortmund sensation Jude Bellingham and Arsenal striker Bukayo Saka.
Chelsea duo Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount will surely be in the Manchester City trio of John Stones, Jack Grealish and Phil Foden.
Another City player, Calvin Phillips, is also likely to be included despite his recent injury, returning to action during City’s Carabao Cup win over Chelsea on Wednesday night.
Teammate Kyle Walker has also been dealing with an injury but is likely to be given every chance to make the plane.
Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale and Newcastle United’s Nick Pope are expected to back-up Pickford in goal.
Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold looks certain to be selected as one of the right-back options alongside Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier.
However, “devastated” Rhys James confirmed he will miss the World Cup with a knee injury, although he was willing to risk it.

England will be without first-choice right-back James at the World Cup
James’ injury is set to open the door for Arsenal’s Ben White, who has excelled for Arsenal as a right-back and central defender.
Luke Shaw is back fit for Manchester United and will start at left-back, with Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell suffering from injury.
Harry Maguire is likely to be among the centre-backs selected despite his struggles for Manchester United, as is Tottenham’s Eric Dier.
Everton’s Conor Coady, Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi are also hopeful of an invite, but Fikayo Tomori, who has been outstanding for AC Milan, is expected to miss out.
Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson is a player for a place in midfield, while James Ward-Prowse could get the nod due to the Southampton midfielder’s ability in set-pieces.
James Maddison has been excellent for Leicester but is considered an unlikely option despite being in excellent form, with reports that he is set to miss out.
Marcus Rashford’s return to form for Manchester United could earn him a place at the expense of West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen.
Ivan Toney, Tammy Abraham and Callum Wilson, meanwhile, are battling it out to be Kane’s back-up in attack.

Maddison has been sensational for Leicester, but will he make the cut?
England at the 2022 World Cup: What has been said?
The biggest talking point has been around Maddison, who has been a standout player in the Premier League for Leicester over the past 18 months. Since the start of last season, he has recorded a total of 30 goals and assists in the top flight, bettered by only one Englishman – Kane. Graeme Souness, Glenn Hoddle and Danny Murphy have all told talkSPORT in recent days that he should make the 26-man squad. “I love him, I think he’s one of those who should be in the England team,” former England manager Hoddle said. Murphy, meanwhile, told White and Jordan: “I would take James Maddison 100%. Absolutely 100 percent. He is the most creative English player in the Premier League at the moment. “I’m not sure if he will leave and it would be a big upset for Gareth if he does, because he hasn’t played for any team recently or for a long time, but he continues to play well. “Must go away. I don’t see any football reason why you didn’t have him. If he doesn’t leave, I feel it’s not a footballing decision and there’s something about him that Gareth doesn’t accept at all.”

England at the 2022 World Cup: What kit will they wear?
The Three Lions kit has been produced by Nike since 2013, but the latest version has divided opinion since it was unveiled. The home shirt is a combination of England’s traditional white background with a mixture of sky blue and navy on the shoulders and sleeves. The badge has a blue border around it with the Nike logo to the right of it. The red away shirt has a reverse feel with a navy blue collar reminiscent of the shirt worn during the 1990 World Cup in Italy. The sleeves also contain a blue lip.
