Whitevale Road is closed between Bloom Road and Barnes Road, south of Lumby, due to flooding. The rains of recent days have pushed the threat of flooding in the Lumby area. DriveBC reports that a section of Whitevale Road is closed between Bloom Road and Barnes Road, 2 miles south of Lumby, due to flooding. There are many farm properties and some larger farms along this section of Whitevale Road. The Village of Lumby activated the Emergency Operations Center on June 14 and issued an evacuation warning. Floods hit Bessette and Duteau creeks last week. Creek levels had dropped, but most of the rainfall over the weekend has swollen the area’s waterways again. The BC River Forecast Center issued a flood alert for the South Thompson Basin on Sunday afternoon, including the Shuswap River and surrounding tributaries. The next DriveBC update for Whitevale Road closure is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Monday 20 June.
