Officials say firefighters responded to the scene, in the 15300 block of Bannister Road SE, around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, officials said three people inside required immediate assistance. “Some people, because of the smoke and flames, were unable to get out of their normal exit,” CFD public information officer Carol Henke said. “So they had to be rescued from their balconies.” EMS also attended the scene and treated a man, who is currently in stable condition at the hospital. Several roads in the area have been closed due to the incident. Residents who were on the scene at the time of the fire – the CFD says there were at least 22 – were offered a seat on nearby city buses to stay out of the cold.
