The city of Princeton issued an evacuation warning for several properties after a hillside showed signs of instability. All Jacobson Road properties and 175 Tulameen Avenue are under alert. Old Hedley Street appears to be possibly being breached by a possible landslide. “This is a precautionary measure,” Mayor Spencer Coyne said in a video clip Wednesday afternoon. “The slope above Old Hedley Road that goes up from Brown Bridge to N&L Automotive has become unstable. It has moved significantly in the last 24 hours. We expect a [geotechnical engineer] to come to town I hope tomorrow to study it.’ In the meantime, people are being asked to stay away from that area of the road. John Allison Elementary posted that bus service is canceled due to the road closure and parents are asked to pick up their children at school. “This is where passenger vehicles can arrive. We’ll keep your kids safe until you get here,” they wrote on social media. Evacuation notices are in place so the city can act quickly in the event of an emergency. “It’s precautionary, it’s for public safety … hopefully tomorrow we’ll see a geotech team working on it,” Coyne said. An evacuation notice means that affected properties should be prepared to evacuate immediately if necessary. More information on how to prepare can be found here. Photo: Town of Princeton
