“He’s trying to grow in front of the world and in front of people,” McEnroe said. “And that can be difficult. The [the 2021 US Open triumph] it happened so fast. “I do not know if anyone could have expected this to happen.” Raducanu is recovering from a lateral injury sustained in Nottingham in her first short swing on the grass. She withdrew from her scheduled tournament next week and has not played since. However, he trained at Wimbledon on Monday. “This is the future of our game. “And people are checking to see what Emma will do in that,” McEnroe said. “And so there is a high level of interest, obviously. So I think it would obviously be good for her and her family and the sport to find something as soon as possible that makes her feel more relaxed and able to do her part. “ At Wimbledon last year, McEnroe came under fire for his skill after Raducanu left in the fourth round against Ajla Tomljanovic. In the wake of her retirement, she suggested that her departure, which was officially described as a respiratory problem, was related to stress. The 63-year-old says he would not say anything different. “I was just as educated as I was guessing about what I thought was going on, based on my 45 years in the professional game,” he said. “And what seemed to be happening, which is completely, you know, happening all the time. It is not like she is the first person to have it happen to her. She may be the first person to be told where, for whatever reason, she should not continue playing. That’s the difference. “ In the wake of Andy Murray’s move to the Stuttgart final, McEnroe expressed surprise at the level the Scotsman was able to show despite his metal hip. “I know it must have been difficult for him in many ways to watch these guys keep collecting records where he basically could not play at all. I am not a doctor. I’m surprised he moves as well as he is. If you have a metal hip, it would tell me that you would not shake the same, that you would be more rigid, that you could not react so quickly. “I just do not understand how it is possible.” Wimbledon will be held without ranking points after the ATP and the WTA chose to cancel them in response to the All England Club ban on Russian and Belarusian players. McEnroe echoed a popular view of the tour, saying he opposed both the original Wimbledon decision and the tour response. He also noted the impact it could have on Novak Djokovic. And he seems uncomfortable with this decision. But to be deported from Australia, to go to Wimbledon and then work and then not get points [if] you win it again and you lose places in the rankings. It just looks crazy. “ Meanwhile, the ATP announced on Tuesday that it would try off-field coaching after Wimbledon. It will allow, among other things, coaches to train their player orally when they are on the same side of the field. Hand signals will now be allowed at any time. The WTA has adopted similar rules in the last two years. John McEnroe is part of the BBC Wimbledon 2022 line-up. Watch all the action on BBC television, radio and the internet from Monday 27 June.
