Lawyers for E. Jean Carroll, a former Elle magazine advice columnist, said Thursday that she will file a lawsuit in Manhattan federal court, Bloomberg reported. Carroll accused Trump of raping her in a locker room at Bergdorf Goodman in 1995. She went public about the experience after he was elected president. The Adult Survivors Act, passed by Albany earlier this year, temporarily suspended the statute of limitations for sex crimes. This allowed Carroll and other victims a year to file civil lawsuits against their attackers. The journalist will file her battery lawsuit on Nov. 24, the day the new law goes into effect, her lawyers said in court. E. The magazine writer, then 52, said Trump pushed her against the locker room wall and pulled down her panties. He allegedly “pushed his fingers around Carol’s genitals and forced his penis into her” as she tried to push him away, according to court documents. Carroll put her high heel on his leg and used her knee to push him off her and sped out of the store, according to the affidavit. The court documents were filed Thursday, just two days after Trump announced his third bid for the White House. Bloomberg via Getty Images Trump has vehemently denied the allegations. She also plans to sue Trump for defamation – a second time – after he called her a liar and said her claims and legal action were “a complete sham” in a lengthy social media post last month. She previously sued the then-president for defamation in 2019 after he made similar comments that she said damaged her reputation. However, Trump and the Justice Department argued that he made the comments against her in his official capacity as president and therefore her lawsuit should be dismissed on legal grounds. Thursday’s filing came just two days after Trump announced a new presidential bid, adding another probe into the former president’s past actions.
