Roofs lost shingles, porches lost supports and at least one old in-ground pool was cut in half by the strong surf. Volusia County homes are destroyed during Hurricane Nicole. Whatever is left standing looks as if it too will fall into the sea at any moment. A home located at 4101 S. Atlantic Ave. fell into the ocean Thursday morning, and six other homes — or at least parts of them — fell into the ocean. A man who lives in the area said he saw a house fall into the ocean. “We were standing right on the beach and a large section of the wall fell, hit the support beam and fell into the water. It was quite scary,” he said. “We were just checking on our neighbors. It almost doesn’t seem real to see all of this, even though you know it’s a possibility to live here.” Homes are destroyed during Hurricane Nicole. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said more homes will also be damaged by beach erosion. “Just total devastation. And we’re not done yet,” Chitwood said. “We knew earlier in the week that at least 22 of those homes were declared structurally unsafe. It was just a matter of what that high tide would do (Thursday) morning and, as you can see what it did, that will continue.” Copyright 2022 by WKMG ClickOrlando – All Rights Reserved.
