Dom Phillips, along with native specialist Bruno Pereira, disappeared two weeks ago – but now human remains have been found. The forensic examination confirmed that Mr. Phillips had been killed and that other remains were believed to belong to Mr. Pereira. A man named Jefferson da Silva Lima was turned into a local police officer. Two brothers are also being held for their alleged involvement in the killings. Earlier this week, police said the main suspect – fisherman Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira – led them to the burial site. He also told police he used a firearm to commit the crime. According to police, Mr. Phillips was shot in the chest, while Pereira was shot in the head and abdomen. Image: Bruno Pereira. The couple was last seen on their boat on the Itaquai River – near the entrance to the Javari Valley Indigenous Territory, which borders Peru and Colombia. That area has seen violent clashes between fishermen, poachers and government officials. In a statement, Phillips wife Alessandra Sampaio said his family could now “say goodbye with love”. He added: “We are also starting our quest for justice. “I hope the inquiries exhaust all possibilities and bring definitive answers to all the relevant details as soon as possible.”
