Location of the new Glenmore Fire Station. One of the first orders of business for Kelowna’s new city council is improved safety for Glenmore residents. Council will be called on Monday to approve a formal community plan amendment and rezoning application to accommodate Glenmore’s new firehall on Glenmore Road North. Although the future site of the firehall is not within the Farmland Reserve, it is A1 agriculture. As part of an agreement with ALC, the current firehall at 550 Valley Road will be restored to an agricultural standard and allowed to be used for agricultural purposes. “The parent parcel of this property was jointly purchased by the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) and the City of Kelowna in 1999,” the staff report said. “It was then subdivided into two parcels to create a Stephens Coyote Ridge Regional Park parcel to be owned by RDCO and the parcel owned by the City of Kelowna.” The site is just north of the Glenmore Landfill. While no construction timeframe is attached to the report, the city’s 10-year capital plan suggests an expected start in 2024.
