Justin Flores, 35, committed suicide on the sidewalk outside the Siesta Inn Motel, where he killed his El Monte police officer. Michael Parents and Officer Joseph Santana on Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause of death of Flores was reported as a gunshot wound to the head. Officials said Flores died during an exchange of gunfire with other officers after killing Parentes, 42, and Santana, 31, inside the motel as they responded to a domestic incident. Paredes and Santana died from gunshot wounds to the head, according to the medical examiner’s records. After fatally shooting police officers, Flores ran outside and exchanged fire with other police officers, officials said. Flores was suspended at the time of the double homicide, after pleading guilty last year to a felony for possession of a firearm. According to court records, Flores’s police officer asked the alleged gang member to return to court later this month.
