Mr Macdonald’s passenger who was also killed was a 16-year-old German student named Admarsu, who lived with local Andy Ive and his family. A Facebook message sent to us by Andy Ive read: “I must inform you all that Ian MacDonald and the young German student who lived with me were both killed in the helicopter crash. Families were informed. We are devastated. ” Mr Ive contacted him but said he could not comment further at this time. The accident happened near Burton in Lonsdale just before noon yesterday (Monday, June 20) and caused a huge backlash from many emergency services in the area. According to the flight data, the boat was returning to the village after a flight from Barrow-in-Furness. Roads around the scene of the accident remain closed to traffic while police are conducting detailed investigations into how the incident happened. “I had met Mr. Macdonald a few times and would like to express my condolences to both families for their loss. It was a complete tragedy and the community will be devastated,” said David Ireton, county councilor for the area. Cllr Stuart Handley, a Burton City Councilor in Lonsdale, echoed Cllr Ireton’s thoughts, adding: “I have known Ian for about five years and have described him as a friend. “It is a terrible loss for both families and my condolences are with them all. It is a tragedy that the whole community feels.” Professor Peter Thompson, president of Burton’s Lonsdale Parish, said he was devastated by the news. “Just last night we officially learned who the two were killed and it has shocked everyone in this close community. “Ian Macdonald was a great support for the village. He had done a lot of work with the village shop. “Admarsu, who lived with Andy Ive, was such a likeable and popular young man. He was only 16 years old, but he was very busy with the jubilee celebrations. “He was on my pub quiz team, although he only had soft drinks because of his age. He was very good and very popular. He was an exchange student and had chosen England and Andy Ive to stay with them. “He was just nearing the end of his three-month exchange and was preparing to return to Berlin soon. “My condolences are extended to both families. We are all in deep shock and this will affect the whole community for a long time.”
