Firefighters pictured at Brune Park Community School put out a fire in one of the site’s buildings. Photo: Simmone Prager Photos posted on social media show smoke rising from the roof of one of the school buildings. It is understood that the building has already been destined for demolition and was formerly the home of the school’s history and geography departments. Firefighters from Gosport, Fareham, Havant, Portchester, Southsea, Wickham, Hightown, Eastleigh fought for almost three hours to bring the fire under control. In all, emergency crews used 17 sets of respirators and two main jets to eventually quell the blaze, which appeared to have been lit on a flat roof on the first floor. Ella-Mai Mcintosh-Sayles, 12, captured this photo of the fire in Brune Park. A spokesman for the Hampshire and White Island Fire and Rescue Service said about 10 percent of the building had been destroyed. The police managed to extinguish the fire until 21.25. Dozens of people outside the school watched the dramatic fight to put out the flames. Among them was 7th grader Ella-Mai Mcintosh-Sayles from Rowner. Speaking to The News with her mother’s permission, the 12-year-old said: “I just could not believe it, it was really crazy to see my own school burn down. The whole building was surrounded by firefighters. “There were seven fire trucks and four police cars. We saw that the building was on fire and we could see flames coming from the roof, the walls and the windows. “I could see firefighters climbing in and out of a broken window, making sure no one was in the building.” Hampshire Police have been notified. The cause of the fire is not yet known. Firefighters carried out a further search of the building at 7 a.m., with a spokesman for the fire and rescue service saying no further action would be taken. Brune Park Community School accommodates more than 1,330 students between the ages of 11 and 16. The school has not yet issued a statement about the fire and its impact – if any – on students.
