British Prime Minister Boris Johnson underwent surgery under general anesthesia on Monday, his office said. Johnson’s spokesman, Max Blaine, said the prime minister had returned home to 10 Downing Street and was resting after a “routine” procedure. He said the operation was planned in advance and was performed by doctors working for the State National Health Service in a London hospital. Deputy Prime Minister Dominique Raab complemented Johnson during the operation. Johnson was hospitalized in the coronavirus intensive care unit in April 2020. Blaine said Monday’s procedure had nothing to do with COVID-19. Johnson, 58, is scheduled to travel to a Commonwealth conference in Rwanda later this week to attend the G7 and NATO summits later this month.
