But across the country Democratic candidates have fared much better than that. The president posted a tweet showing himself smiling as the results poured in. Biden said, “I just talked to some of tonight’s winners — including some people I saw on the street this year.”

Senate
In one of the biggest results for Democrats, John Fetterman flipped a Senate seat in the state of Pennsylvania, cruising to a surprise early-night victory against Trump-backed celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz. In Georgia, which Republicans were certain to take, neither Democrat Raphael Warnock nor Donald Trump-backed former NFL star Herschel Walker reached the required 50 percent threshold, so there will be a runoff next month. That means Senate control may not be known for weeks. In Arizona, Democrats are also set to retain their Senate seat, which is up for election, with former astronaut Mark Kelly leading Blake Masters with just over half the votes counted. In Nevada, however, Republican candidate Adam Laxalt is narrowly ahead of Kathryn Cortez Masto with 70 percent of the vote counted. That means control of the Senate itself may remain with Democrats. The New York Times predicted that Biden would narrowly hold the Senate.
