Officers were called to reports that a man had been hit by a vehicle in Tithe Farm Road, Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire, at 1.18am. of Sunday. Emergency services found three men with stab wounds. The two were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third was taken to hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition. A spokesman for Bedfordshire Police said: “Officers today arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.” The spokesman said one of the dead was a man in his 20s and the other in his 30s. The injured man is in his 20s and remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital, according to the spokesman. Police have not yet named the victims, but say their families are being supported. Det Supt Carl Foster said: “This was a shocking incident which happened in a busy area of Houghton Regis and has undoubtedly caused great concern in the local community. We have a dedicated team working on this investigation and conducting a series of inquiries to bring those responsible to justice. “People will see an increased police presence in the city over the coming days and we continue to offer support to the families affected at this difficult time. The survey team has been greatly helped by the response from residents – we have received an incredible amount of input from the public. “Please continue to come forward with anything that may be relevant to help us determine who is responsible. In a week where forces nationwide are responding to knife crime, we are committed to tackling this issue. “This incident illustrates a level of violence that we will not allow to go unpunished, and we will also work hard to prevent.”
