Photo: Contributed Winter arrived with a bang for residents of the southern Interior this week, bringing significant snow, strong winds and freezing temperatures. The City of Kelowna says road crews are working around the clock cleaning, scraping and de-icing the community’s roads and responding to the harsh winter conditions. “After two decent snowfalls, our roads are in rough shape, but all available crews and resources are going through priority zones across the city,” said Director of Roadways Operations Andrew Schwerdtfeger. “Crews have been out continuously since last week and will be out until the snow and ice we’re dealing with is cleared.” City crews began clearing priority 1 arterial roads and priority 2 feeder roads with steep hills, sharp turns, school zones, emergency vehicle stops and transit routes Monday night. They have applied 50,000 liters of de-icing liquid calcium chloride in the last few days and 1,200 tons of sand in the last 24 hours. The city says it rolled out 16 trucks Tuesday morning, with four one-ton trucks, seven sidewalk plows and three graders clearing streets and sidewalks around Kelowna. read more Do you have an opinion?
