After allegedly losing millions of orders for the iPhone 14 OLED display due to an unauthorized build change, the BOE is said to be presenting new samples to Apple. It was first reported that the BOE had production problems in February 2022, and then it was revealed that it had stopped production. This was eventually said to be because Apple caught the BOE changing the design of the screen. Specifically, the BOE is said to have “extended the width of the thin-film transistor circuit” used in the panels for its iPhone 13 orders. It is not clear why this was done without Apple knowing, but changing the plan seemed to mean that the BOE would lose millions of orders. According to The Elec, however, Apple will begin evaluating BOE’s iPhone 14 OLED samples this week. Unidentified sources say that the BOE hopes to make a decision from Apple within a month. If Apple decides to go ahead with the BOE, the manufacturer is expected to start mass production sometime in July and August. Elec says its panels are being tested for the base iPhone 14, not the Pro models. Previously, The Elec had proven that it has decent sources of information in Apple’s supply chain. However, its subsequent history in certain conclusions is poorer.
