The Ottawa-raised singer was expected to join Olivia Rodrigo in a duet of You’re So Vain to honor inductee Carly Simon. But Morissette didn’t take the stage and later posted a message on Instagram hinting at an experience with the production team that brought back memories of “a general anti-feminist sentiment” she’d experienced in the entertainment industry. Morissette wrote that she has “sucked it up more times than I can count” to appear in public over the years, but no longer needs to “spend time in an environment that degrades women.” She did not elaborate on the behavior that led to her exit from the show. Rodrigo went on to perform Simon’s tribute solo. Representatives for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
