Nanaimo RCMP officers were called to a house on Eighth Street, behind Park Elementary School, around 10:00 pm on June 20, after receiving a report of a disturbance. According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release with very little information, as soon as police entered the house, they found a dead adult woman and shortly afterwards arrested a man suspected of murder. Const. Naryimo RCMP spokesman Gary O’Brien confirmed in a brief press conference that a man had been arrested for murder, but said no charges had been filed. “This person is in custody; no charges have been filed at this point,” he said. O’Brien said no further details would be released because the investigation was “too early” and no formal charges had been filed. “At this point, we do not believe there is any further danger to the public,” he said. “We are not giving any more information about this, as it is too early to investigate.” Police have not yet said what the relationship was between the victim and the suspect or whether they even knew each other. Tommy Paul lives on 8th Street. He says police interrogated him and other neighbors this morning. “It’s really shocking. It ‘s crazy. It is right there at the end of the impasse. “It has always been a fairly quiet street,” Paul said But neighbors say they knew something was wrong when several police patrols, two ambulances and a fire truck arrived on their way Monday night. “We wandered around the street for a while and one of the cops passed by with his window down and told us to go home immediately and we were fine, so we all went back home and got stuck in the front window,” he said. Dave Shiepel, another neighbor. Sipel says he saw a man he had never seen walking down the street last night shortly before police arrived. “About 20 minutes later, half an hour later, we saw the same guy being dragged to the back of a police car,” Sippel said. Police spent much of the day working on a search warrant to enter the property. A taxi can be seen parked on the street of the house. Police say the driver was not the victim. The 2,800-square-foot home is 4.3 acres and sold in April for $ 2.25 million. Its expiration date is set in September. The RCMP is expected to be on stage for the rest of Tuesday and all day Wednesday. This is the second homicide investigation in the city this year. In February, James Turok was charged with murder after a Buzz Coffee House staff member was found dead inside. [email protected]
