Stuart Green, a spokesman for the transportation service, said security video showed a man hitting the steering wheel on the north route near Queen Station shortly after 6:30 p.m. The metal hoop came in contact with the power rail, which has 600 volts of electricity running inside it. This caused the rubber to start smoking. The incident was initially reported as a fire. For security reasons, TTC was forced to suspend all services between Bloor-Yonge and Union stations. TTC firefighters and engineers were called, but it was not until 8:30 p.m. to restart the trains. Green said the security video would be reported to police.
