One woman, who chose to remain anonymous, said she lives about a block away from the blast and felt it immediately. “Honestly, I’m still shaken up about it,” he said hours after the explosion. “We were watching cartoons and our house was shaking a lot. I would imagine it is the sensation of an earthquake. I could see and feel the house shaking.” He is one of many residents who heard the explosion and wondered what exactly had happened. And as she tried to understand what happened, her mind began to race. “I immediately got up in a panic,” he explained. “I checked the front of the house and ran to the back to check in the alley. I asked my kids who were in the basement what it was. I thought a car hit my neighbor’s house or something. Then he thought it was a bomb or explosion. “My neighbor and I went outside and we could hear the sirens. We walked just down the block and could see the fire trucks and police cars coming down 6th Avenue.” Windows in several houses in the area were broken after the incident. Police say power is out in the area and residents within a block radius of the scene have evacuated their homes as emergency crews continue to work.
