The incident was reported around 8 p.m. in the 3000 block of South Trinity Street near Martin Luther King Boulevard. According to police, officers attempted to pull over the driver of a white Porsche Cayenne, but he refused to stop. That’s when he continued driving, going through a concrete rail and into the carnival set-up in the street. The driver, who has not yet been identified, hit at least six people, all of whom are between the ages of 30 and 50, police said. “He was kind of upset because he hit some of my guards,” said one witness. “He actually concussed one of the guards and broke his leg. Shouldn’t have happened, man.” Video obtained by Eyewitness News shows several people running to safety. All six patients were rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Police said officers found the suspect’s vehicle a few blocks away and a person of interest was arrested. “It appears that he tried to exit the fair, but due to the barricades, he was unable to exit the fair, so he continued westbound on MLK, continuing through the crowd of people, which we estimate was between a thousand and 2,000 people,” said the sergeant. Robert Leary with the LAPD. Given how busy the street fair was, Leary said the outcome could have been much worse. “It’s a blessing no one was seriously injured,” he said. “I think they heard the car, I’m not sure if it was honking, obviously people were screaming. It was pretty hectic so I think people saw that car coming in and luckily they got out of the way in time.” It is unclear if the driver of the Cayenne was under the influence of any kind of substance or alcohol. The incident remains under investigation. Copyright © 2022 KABC Television, LLC. All rights reserved.
