It happened just before 1pm on Broadway on 29th Street. Authorities say the cab was heading west on 29th Street, turning left on Broadway when the driver collided with a CitiBike at the intersection. The driver then climbed the sidewalk, cutting several pedestrians and nailing two women under the vehicle. In what New York Deputy Chief of Police John Cell called a “remarkable scene,” between 15 and 20 good Samaritans tried to lift the taxi away from the victims. Three people were taken to Bellevue in critical condition and two others were injured who were not life-threatening, according to the FDNY. The taxi driver, who remained at the scene, also had non-life-threatening injuries. It is not clear if he may have had a medical condition and the investigation is ongoing. At the moment, the authorities believe that it is accidental and not criminal in nature.
