One of the men was released, while the other was taken into custody. An employee of Parc Omega called police at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday and reported seeing a vehicle illegally entering the lot, according to Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Marc Tessier, spokesman for the Quebec provincial police. The employee also reportedly said he heard noises, “probably gunshots,” Tessier said. Police arrested two men, ages 42 and 21, in a vehicle in which four animal carcasses — three wild boars and a moose — were discovered, Tessier said. Firearms were also found.

The Park confirms the killing of animals

In a statement issued on Monday afternoon, Parc Omega confirmed that four of its animals had been killed. The men were taken into custody and appeared in court on Friday. They were back in court on Monday. The 42-year-old was released on conditions such as not going to the park, not communicating with a co-accused, not carrying a weapon and not consuming drugs or alcohol. The 21-year-old remained in custody. They are charged under the Penal Code with killing animals kept for a lawful purpose, breaking and entering a non-dwelling place, unlawful transportation of firearms and unlawful discharge and use of a firearm during a break and enter. The case returns to court on Friday.

An isolated event, the park says

In an emailed statement, Parc Omega management wanted to reassure the public. “Two people broke in and unfortunately killed four of our animals. Safety protocols are in place at the park and all have been followed to the letter,” the statement said. Managers said surveillance cameras, security barriers and a security officer are on site. “We want to reassure customers that everyone is safe and that this type of situation is an isolated event. We have made every effort to ensure that this situation does not happen again, for everyone’s safety and for the safety of our precious animals.” .”
